A dog called Oliver Twist was found starving to death on Christmas Eve after he fell into a deep pit under a bridge.
The terrier was down there for a week without any food or water.

He was rescued after some dock workers spotted him down the steep-sided pit in Goole, Yorkshire, and called the RSPCA.
A rescue officer managed to coax him out of his hole with some cat biscuits before lifting him out to safety.
