Those ‘dogs reacting to lemons’ videos could actually be killing them

Dog owners have been uploading videos of their pets’ bizarre reactions after tasting lemons and limes.

Hundreds of thousands of YouTube users have watched the ‘cute’ and ‘hilarious’ videos – which first emerged in 2013 but have been growing in popularity – in which dogs will taste some lemon or lime and then jump up and down, thrash about or back away from the fruit.

But animal rights groups have said that the dogs’ strange reactions might be because citrus fruits contain chemicals that are poisonous to them – and owners are putting their pets at risk.

‘People may think that the dogs’ reactions in these videos are cute – but the reality is very different,’ said an RSPCA spokesperson.
