We’ve all heard stories about firefighters rescuing cats stuck up trees – but have you ever heard of them rescuing a pigeon stuck on a roof?
Two fire crews were sent to a branch of Poundland in the Tunstall area of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, after a pigeon got stuck in netting on the shop’s roof.
The incident happened on Thursday and shoppers spotted the two Staffordshire Fire and Rescue crews using an aerial ladder platform to reach the bird.
The rescue took about an hour – and the pigeon was checked over by the local RSPCA before being set free.
A spokesman for the fire service said: ‘On arrival, we found a pigeon stuck in netting, at roof height.
‘Crews managed to get the bird down and it was treated at the scene by the RSPCA before being released.’
Two crews, from Longton and Sandyford, were sent to the scene at around 1.15pm, and the incident was all wrapped up by 2.10pm.
Thankfully the bird was uninjured, with only some ruffled feathers to show for its adventure.
And it’s not the only animal to get itself stuck in an awkward situation this week, as a fuming red squirrel had to be rescued from a manhole cover in Germany.
But after all that fuss, the pigeon will probably choose to shop at Poundstretcher from now on.
