A cat needed surgery after swallowing a rat whole, giving us all a preview of how we’ll feel after Christmas dinner.

Rosie, from Strensall in Yorkshire, was rescued by the RSPCA after turning up at someone’s house with a hard and severely swollen stomach on December 2.

Dog walkers have been warned about rat poison stuffed in bread at popular dog walking sites.

Police issued an urgent alert to all pet owners after they received a call this morning by a member of the public who found multiple piles of bread laced with blue poison pellets.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: ‘Warning for dog walkers in Preston Park, Brighton, Sussex. We have received a call this morning that multiple piles of bread with rat poison were found.

An investigation has been launched in a bid to track down the owners of a tiny puppy, who was found abandoned inside a bag on Christmas Eve.

Buddy, who was named after the Christmas elf by RSPCA staff, was discovered inside a black carrier in a pub car park at around 6.20pm on Sunday.

A man hurled a border terrier more than 15ft from a bridge on New Year’s Day.

The dog, nicknamed Milo by rescuers, landed on wasteland and miraculously survived,

A passerby witnessed the man get out of a black Vauxhall Corsa and throw the dog, contacting the RSPCA for help.

Brett Witchalls, the RSPCA’s chief inspector for Wirral, said: ‘Despite what he went through, Milo is thankfully uninjured.

‘Staff at the animal hospital where he is being cared for say he is in a good condition.

A dog called Oliver Twist was found starving to death on Christmas Eve after he fell into a deep pit under a bridge.

The terrier was down there for a week without any food or water.

He was rescued after some dock workers spotted him down the steep-sided pit in Goole, Yorkshire, and called the RSPCA.

A rescue officer managed to coax him out of his hole with some cat biscuits before lifting him out to safety.

A thug has been spared jail after he ‘snapped’ and bludgeoned his pet cat to death with a hammer because she bit him.

Adrian Straw, 54, was seen smashing 14-year-old Lupo over the head three times in his garden by a horrified neighbour.

The starving birds were found fending for themselves, flying around the home, when officials arrived.

Two men forced to have legs amputated after being crushed in hit and run

The hunt is on to find the ‘evil’ attacker who beat two pregnant alpacas to death and returned the next day to kill another.

Their heartbroken owners, who keep 80 alpacas on their farm, found Pleasance and Gabriella dead in their shelter on January 6.

The next day a four-month old alpaca called Raggamuffin was discovered beaten to death.

Their bodies were taken to a veterinary surgery, were tests showed all three animals suffered blunt force trauma injuries.

The kitty – a stray who they had been feeding for a while – had quietly crept into their living room and hid under their sofa for a little snooze.

Police officers found a four-foot crocodile when they carried out a drugs raid.

A couple have been banned from keeping animals for a decade after a number of pets were found in ‘squalid’ conditions – surrounded by urine and human faeces.

Robert and Ceri Ann Rickman, both of Parc Newydd, Briton Ferry, had both previously admitted causing unnecessary suffering to 15 domestic cats, and failing to take reasonable steps to ensure the needs of two dogs were met.
