A dog has been rescued after horrific footage emerged of it being dragged down a street in Birmingham.
The animal’s lead was attached to a mobility scooter in the Erdington area of the city.
In a clip of the incident, the dog struggles to stand due to the speed of the electric vehicle.
As a result, it’s painfully dragged over the concrete on all fours.
The woman driving the mobility scooter can be seen looking at the camera before turning away and carrying on up the road.
Someone filming the encounter from a nearby car can be heard shouting: ‘You are hurting your dog. The dog’s going to die. You are hitting the kerb.’
The footage, shared widely on social media, led to calls for intervention to save the dog.
Fortunately, due to a combined effort by West Midlands Police and the RSPCA, the pet has been saved.
An RSPCA spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘A dog who was seen in a video posted online has been seized by police and is now in RSPCA care and being checked over by a vet.
‘Our enquiries are ongoing so we won’t be releasing any further information at this time but we’d like to thank West Midlands Police for assisting with this investigation and helping to find the dog so quickly.’
The clip had caused widespread anger after being shared by the Birmz Is Grime blog on Twitter with the caption: ‘Who is this person? This dog needs to be found and rescued’.
One person commented: ‘Has this been reported. It’s horrific.’
Another wrote: ‘Poor dog. I hope they find the lady driving and take the dog off her.’
West Midlands Police has been contacted for comment by Metro.co.uk.
