Badger culling is under way in England, despite widespread protests from animal welfare organisations.
The government is rolling out the cull to more parts of the country, with the stated aim of tackling tuberculosis in cattle – who can catch the disease from badgers.
Additional licences have been granted for culls in parts of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset – and Defra confirmed that operations are ‘now under way’.
The announcement comes after cull schemes in three areas of Gloucestershire, Somerset and Dorset.
